The wide split issue comes into play most often on 40 meters SSB.
When Vlad was on his Grand Tour of all those African sites a while back, he used the 'Wide Split' technique frequently. Vlad operated cw employing the Wide Split profile.

W9OL handles this problem by using the 2nd receiver.
I use the 2nd receiver to 'LISTEN' to the DX station while 'TRANSMITTING' using VFO A.

It takes a little practice to get the procedure down fast.

I use these steps.

1. Tune vfoa to the DX station
2. enable A>B button
3. enable RX2, check to make sure 'RED TX' is still on VFOA, check to make sure VFOA is proper mode, filter, click the 'Save' button. The reason I chose to transmit on vfoA and not vfoB as you do in most normal split situations is that I use CWSkimmer to 'look for last worked frequency' in CW mode. Also I already have the mode, filter, selected so I'm 'less likely' to goof on those details.

Every time this situation occurs, I tell myself to use DDUt to create a macro to go through the steps.
Procrastination is one of my best skills.

Good luck.
