I set up the MP3 so that I can switch from dual to single receive, move the signals back and forth between ears, and tune both VFOs, all with my left hand, while the right hand is on the key. In my experience that's the path to DX success with 5 watts. The radio has excellent capabilities for dual receive and split operation, but without Tobias's work of genius they're too hard to get to, and of little use when things are moving fast. Like many hard-core CW ops, I operate split 100% of the time, even if the station on the other end is working simplex. There's always a potential advantage to sliding to one side, and the need for that is magnified when you run low power. Only with the MP3 can I operate the rig the way I want to.
