In addition to having schematics and other documentation available from Elecraft for the K3, Fred Cady, KE7X, has an excellent book on the K3, including design information, block diagrams, partial schematics, driving instructions, and hint and kinks related to the K3.

There is NO lack of detailed information on the K3, other than source code for the processors. Elecraft is to be commended for this.

I thought there was also information available on the Flex rigs, at least the 5000, to owners who ask Flex for it. I have not yet asked for that info for my 1500. I understand the basics of the radio from the block diagrams, and can look at the circuit boards as necessary. It's a pretty basic QSD/QSE rig, with a dedicated codec and the appropriate associated circuitry. I find that (other than curiosity) I do not need to know what each resistor does. Especially since, unlike the K3, the 1500 hardware can be treated as just an RF conversion front-end, with the significant "magic" being done inside PowerSDR. With PowerSDR source available from Flex to those who ask, you essentially have the equivalent of schematics for the back-end of your radio.

I like both rigs for different purposes, so I won't get into an either/or discussion.

Russ, googling for "K3 Schematic" will return this result:

http://www.elecraft.com/manual/K3_Schematics_Jan_2010.pdf

It's a 52-page document containing a schematic of every module.
