But here's a thought.  If we all contributed to the profile pool, those
microphone etc. combos for the radios, maybe they can get included in the
distribution and be a little closer to "work right out of the box"?  It sure
would have helped me.

Yes, one would indeed "hope", but when wishes like this go answered, one
would have to actually start making adjustments. I know that there are
certain transceiver / microphone / shack combinations that are great right
out of the box, but mine wasn't one of them and most of the people that I
know with 5Ks needed to put in a similar amount of effort. 

The 5K just seems to be a little more sensitive in this regard other
transceivers that I have used. It's not a big deal...

One would hope that all of the default parameters would be such that a
simple mic gain adjustment to allow for different microphones and voice
levels would be sufficient.
