Hi Ken,

CWX is extremely unreliable, I have seen all sorts of problems with it,
even a complete cold boot of the PC!
I've had the same problems as you with using the predefined messages,
works great for a while then boom, goes off on one and often find I have
to either restart PSDR or reboot the PC to fix it, this is with a Flex3000.

For CW you will be much better off using an external programmable keyer,
much more reliable.
