Free means nothing if nobody does the maintenance/enhancements. The question has always been "who will do this"?
I really think this is not very likely to come from Flex; they have bet big on the 6000 series and have moved their resources (very predominantly if not entirely) to that platform. If it is to happen at all, we, the 5000 owners, must supply the programming resources. I personally find that doubtful. I know I never found the time to contribute anything. If there is any salvation, we must look to something else.
