Why does it need to be a USB dongle? I thought Flex had the wonderful FPGA combined with SmartSDR. Some kind of software licensing for the D-STAR maybe?

Additionally, it sounds like the 'dongle' plugs into the 6K rather than into a PC so there are probably significant architectural and hardware differences that would pretty much exclude the legacy radios.
