It might be a good idea actually to add lat/lon/elev of each station to the list, and to use it instead of the airport list. At least, I have a nagging feeling that there are METAR reporting stations somewhere in the world not colocated with an airport, though I don't have time to check right now.
That's definitely a good idea. There are definitely many weather stations not colocated with airports (or at least that don't have corresponding airports in our database.) Any one know where we can get current and definitive information?
