This is a good development. I like working with SVG and my Firefox 1.5
browser can natively display the SVG images Ampere posted. The images
can be worked with in Inkscape if necessary, which is a truly
excellent and easy to use editor for SVG images. The format is also
and open standard and is a type of XML, so it remains human
readable/text editable (just in case it needs to be carved onto a
stela for future generations to read).

I would be happy to have accurate sized and located buildings, even if
they are unattractive in appearance without their textures. The visual
improvement we could see is a very exciting prospect.

The proposal was to create an application where a scenery designer
could load the airport diagram output and visually select the elements
they wanted to included, delete others, perhaps manipulate them as in
a visual scenery or airport designer. It may be possible FGSD or
TaxiDraw could be adapted to help in these processes or a new
application developed. I do not know which would be the best route.
Currently TaxiDraw as I understand it cannot handle this kind of
freeform data. We do want scenery designers to be able to tweak and
refine the diagram results.

The buildings could be treated separately and refinements made by
bringing them into a 3d editor.

I think it is reasonable to assume the taxiways are a single model,
although it might be possible for the data to be broken automatically
into sections. I would like to see the buildings as single models. At
least where the building is isolated, it could be considered a single
model. Where building shapes are connected, it would be a single
model.

This project would give us an edge over other sims!

I like the idea of airport configuration files. It would allow users
to make changes to an airport using a text editor.
