Eventually, I suppose. But there's no hurry.

Yes. For that matter, it could be just /one/ airplane in one directory.
A 182rg with the gear down is very nearly the same as a straight-leg 182.

To convert RG-gear-down to fixed-gear, all you need to do, to a good
approximation, unless I'm overlooking something, is:
 -- don't enforce the 140kias Vle limitation.
-- if you want to "disappear" the gear handle and position indicators
(much like the disappearing yoke) that would be a nice touch.

Pilots could "remodel" the 182 into the 182rg and back again whenever
they wanted.

I'm advocating a keep-it-simple approach. Forsooth, I'd be happy
with a little toggle switch that turned on a green light.

Any unrealism associated with /simple/ gear model would be the gnat
on the tip of the iceberg compared to other unrealism in the system.
If you're going to fuss with the FDM, don't worry about the gear,
worry about the adverse yaw, the yaw damping, the roll damping, and
the power/flap/trim interaction.

Yeah. And it would be the only fully-developed "complex single"
in such distributions and/or the flightgear.org download page.
As such it would attract even more attention than it does now.

The nearest competition is the PA24 Commanche, which is (a) not
nearly as common in the real-world fleet, and hence not as familiar
to most pilots, and (b) not fully developed at the moment, e.g.
no altimeter at the moment.
