I believe it makes the most sense for the featured aircraft to be both commonly recognizable and present in the Flightgear repository. It might confuse some people if they go looking for the featured aircraft and didn't find it in the official downloads page. The Concorde and the 747 make fine exemplars and look great in those images.
I'm wondering what is the significance of the curious white or yellow parallelogram seen near the "Flightgear" lettering in some of the most recent batch of suggested images?
