I do know that there are (or have been) issues with the nvidia linux
drivers running on SMP machines.

You might double check you have the latest drivers; also double check
that there are SMP specific drivers available; also look through the
nvidia driver install notes for SMP specific info.  There is some
settings for the linux drivers that can affect how well they work on
an SMP machine, there might be something similar on windows?
