I used the 0.9.6 Windows installer that is provied on the homepage.

That should be OK then, but you might consider downloading the very latest version from here:

ftp://ftp.ihg.uni-duisburg.de/FlightGear/Win32/fgfs-0.9.6-20041010.zip

What's different on that version?

Maybe - but then FGFS isn't multiplatform anymore. And an Acer
Travelmate 800 is a real mainstream laptop so we can't say that it is
incompatible...

Multi-platform means Linux/Cygwin/Windows not Acer/Dell/HP.

Yes, of course. But if many Winodows users (even with very common hardware) can't use FGFS anymore then we've lost multiplatform.

So how about checking/updating your sound card driver? At least that problem
could be eliminated. The error message described above would seem to point
in that direction.

OK, I've update the sound driver (I've got an Realtek AC'97 or so...) and now it seems to work. I haven't tested it really though - just one quick flight.

But direction is clear: we should tell everybody with this kind of problems to update their sounddriver and report back if it works then. So we can figure out if "new sound driver" is a requirement that we sould put on the homepage.

Christian
