Andrew, look for the settings file for the airplane, something like c172p.xml, 
load it into 
a decent text editor and find the p_factor setting, which probably is set to 
10.0   then 
change that to 5.0 or even 1.0 and save the file again. This will reduce the 
effect a lot.

Not all the planes work decently with regards to the AP. Some work thru' the 
menu 
setting, some don't and with some only part of it works. I found the Cessna 
1981 models 
do a pretty good job from the AP panel on your 2- or 3-d panel.
