Bill,

Forget trying to compile OpenAL from source on Cygwin...it would seem
it's just not possible. To counter this a very nice chap named Norman
Vine has made pre-compiled libraries of OpenAL available for those of
us that use Cygwin (I think Norman used MSVC to create Cygwin
compatible libraries?!?) I recently wrote a lengthy document/tutorial
about how to start from scratch and get FG compiled on Win32 using
Cygwin. The doc is with George Patterson for inclusion into the FG
system. AJ yesterday made available a copy of this doc:

http://www.adeptopensource.co.uk/personal/fg/fg_cygwin.tar.gz

(It might look like [and is] a Unix archive but WinZip can open this
file once downloaded to your PC)

Try reading that and see if it helps. I went through the same pain of
learning how to compile FG + SimGear + PLIB + OpeanAL on Win32/Cygwin
so I truly hope the guide helps others. Reassuringly is that when
you've compiled FG CVS once it's actually very easy!

Feel free to reply to me directly if you have any suggestions how this
guide could be improved.

N.B. Previous threads have discussed the merits of PDF versus HTML. I
tried to "Save As HTML" from bloat-ware MS Word but haven't found a
way to make the image resolution of the screenshots as good as the
resolution in the PDF. For now, then, PDF is what's available :)

Regards,

Kevin.
