Greetings all,

I have just noticed something weird but gratifying.

We all know that freeglut 2.4 breaks FlightGear (among other programs). In
frustration, I found the CVS instructions for freeglut, and manually installed
the CVS alongside 2.4 on my Debian machine. FlightGear instantly found the new
libraries, despite the fact that they were in a non-Debian-standard location,
and now works perfectly again. I am currently downloading the CVS of FG, ASAP.

Here's the thing: I had not previously been able to get fgrun to work. I also
have the CVS of fgrun, and it would only start if I specified
'--fg-root=/usr/share/games/FlightGear' on the commandline with no other
options: It would not recognise environment variables or config files. And
then, after manually filling in all the extra information, it would always
crash when hitting 'Next'.

Now, with a brand new up-to-CVS of freeglut, it works perfectly and launches
FlightGear with all specified parameters, even the ones like 3D clouds that
aren't a good idea performance-wise.

The moral of the story is: CVS is good for you.

Cheers,
J

P.S.: I can't get the Spitfire to start _at all_ unless I hit the magneto
switches as soon as FG loads, and the propeller is still windmilling. I'll try
again when the FG CVS has finished.
