Indeed, this is the first time I have ever encountered this problem under Linux (as far as I can remember). Using wget has resulted in a file which matches your md5sum. Now I have a valid tar file, I can see tar was aborting on the last file in the tar archive. I wonder if something about this specific tar archive was triggering some final block related logic problem in the downloader.
