In openSuSE 11.3 M6 I got NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.36.07.04-pkg1.run and/or NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.36.15-pkg1.run to work correctly (at least it appears) by anding to /etc/X11/init.d/xserverrc --ignoreABI. It is a problem caused by xorg (I think). It compiles correctly installs the module and no place to add nvidia. Ther is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
