This sounds like a memory problem.

One question though: Did you say that the title of other (non-fltk)
windows in other applications are also affected?

That sounds like a very strange problem - since these applications will
all be running in different memory spaces, it's hard to see how you
could even get that situation... Very odd.
Are you sure your host machine itself is working OK and doesn't have
some other, underlying problem? Just a thought...
