In the course of last night I had occasion to correct a mistake in my local repository by issuing "git reset
--mixed" which led me to this following excellent resource which explains through extremely clear diagrams
the relationship between the various kinds of resetting.

You may, unlike me, have this all straight already, but I find it a worthwhile read on this, as usual,
pretty well thought-out piece of git functionality.
