Hi everyone, Many thanks to Cindy, Justin and Michelle for your feedback and assistance. After a few discussions, we have implemented option 1: the current (and future) repository for the ILDH can now be found at this URL: https://github.com/fluid-project/handbook.floeproject.org - CURRENT
The previous, archived version has been renamed to indicate the year it became inactive: https://github.com/fluid-project/2015-handbook.floeproject.org - ARCHIVED Anyone attempting to access the latter by its previous URL will be redirected to the former, as outlined in my original message, and a note will be added to the current repo's Readme to link to the archived repo in case anyone was looking for that. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns or suggestions about these changes. I suppose there's another option. I'm not sure how much work this would be or other issues, so it may not be worthwhile. We could unarchive the original repo, and archive the current one. There by renaming nothing. You could look into merging the two repos as well, if you wanted to preserve the history across the two. Some drawbacks would be: * Need to move issues from current repo to the former one (GitHub has a mechanism for this) * Would need to merge the repos if you want all the history in one place * If repos aren't merged, there would be some work to copy/port over existing codebase from current repo If this approach isn't taken, I'm fine with Option 1. However we need to indicate somewhere in the current repo a reference to the original repo. All in all, I'm glad we're fixing this up as I've had issues locating the repo for this site on a few occasions. In the very near future, we'll begin reworking the Inclusive Learning Design Handbook (ILDH) to incorporate a new design, and it would be great to get your input on a question related to repository naming. The name of the archived repo seems the most appropriate in my opinion, though alternatives such as "ildh" or "inclusive-learning-design-handbook" would be serviceable. Which of these options would you choose, and why? Or, would you choose another option? 1. Rename the archived repo and rename the current repo to take the former's name 2. Rename the current repo a new and less ambiguous name 3. Do nothing - leave the names as they are It's worth noting that redirects to a previous name are preserved by GitHub according to their documentation<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.github.com%2Fen%2Frepositories%2Fcreating-and-managing-repositories%2Frenaming-a-repository&data=04%7C01%7Cgmoss%40ocadu.ca%7C6c5a7fd3ffa3426ad47808d9da99b8fe%7C06e469d12d2a468fae9b7df0968eb6d7%7C0%7C0%7C637781176040117380%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=4J9XMffoUkETueBgWp1AHEgC%2FEGvqoRZ8uk9yxexxR0%3D&reserved=0>, EXCEPT if the name is reused. So Option 1 would break any redirects to the old repo (redirects which are over 6 years stale at this point, potentially), and Option 2 would preserve any redirects to the current repo.
