Hi,
Welcome to the land of FME :-)
It depends on the purpose, the destination schema that you would like to achieve in MapInfo (Like certain attributes in your MapInfo TAB files).
You could use FME Uinversal Translator, if you are looking at performing a Format A to Format B translation, with little or no manipulation of your AutoCAD features.
You can output the data by geometry types in your AutoCAD file/ Layer names and so on.
If you are looking at performing some manipulation on your AutoCAD features then you will have to use FME Workbench. The manipulation could be as simple as sending data in various layers of your AutoCAD layer to specific MapInfo TAB files to attribute manipulation, geometry manipulation etc.
HTH
Happy FME-ing :-)
Cheers
