I hate to hear that as the product the features my friend needs. I can put together a file for him to handle some basic data entry and creation of form letters to his donors, but I was hoping to use Donations as the work is already done.

Likely won't work. Donations includes a separate, locked file named 'fmd_Language' that you probably can't make into a runtime.
