open url problem

I have a script set up to open the url that is in a specific field.   
The url appears correctly in the field, and in the Open URL box that  
pops up, but it enters the url wrong in Safari--including %20 in the  
url address.  eg. http:%20www.earth911.org

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix this?
