The "problem" may stem from the fact that browsers (and the OS's that use
them and any process that understands what to do with an URL request) have
started NOT allowing the Username:Password in an URL. Chalk it up to
protecting us, your mileage may vary. :)

Rather than relying on an URL to open a database, I go back to the tried and
true "opener" file. I don't know if this answers your question, because
sometimes you *can* put the username:password in an URL.
