You can have the [GUEST] account have [Full Access] privileges and set the File Options to automatically use the Guest account to login.

But if you do that when you use

"FMP7://USN:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/DBName.fp7"

but instead of putting in a username/password just do

"FMP7://SERVERIP/DBName.fp7"

instead of the file just opening, you get the enter your password here dialog.

If instead you go to file-open remote and select the file, the file just opens (with full access privileges under the guest accountname).

I'm trying to use the FMP7... method to create a shortcut to a help file that has the [guest] account with [full access] and have it NOT open the password here dialog.

(The important databases have many levels of passwords; unimportant dbs have the guest account with full access.)

Tami,

Once you have setup an account with password requirement even for full
access, EVERYONE will have to have an account and password.

You can create accounts and privileges for those who do not have full
access. The define accounts has three default privileges: full, data
entry only, read only. If anyone is between full access and data entry
only, you will need to customize the extended privileges for the
scripts, layouts, and fields usage or non-usage. If you have the full
access staff requiring passwords, you will be required for all other
users to have passwords. Also, I would not have people to have direct
access via remote into the database server. If any db is highly
sensitive and requires serious security protocols, I would suggest
making a short cut icon that uses the OPEN FILE script to launch the
database.

I do not have direct FM server experience, but I develop and manage 3
main databases having over 40 tables - the approx total # of scripts far
exceeds 1800 and I certainly do not want someone to have access to
those. You may re-think about who really has full access because this
means they can change your layouts, your field definitions, scripts and delete whatever, and these deletions cannot be retrieved unless you have
a daily backup of the db system.

You also want to have staff to use the 'OPEN' prompt for the window that pops up for file sharing on the network. Each user's computer will have to have the preferences set for TCP-IP, usernames exactly as the account
name, and any default settings on color and font. Lastly, passwords
should consist of a minimum of 10 characters in random order using upper
and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. This is suggested by SANS
for securing highly sensitive information - and I think it is necessary for securing company data, especially corporate finances and definitely
payroll.

Subject: problems adding username and password when sending the url of a
shared database

the help says
"The client must have a valid account and password."

And, when I try

"FMP7://USN:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/DBName.fp7"

where USN = username and PWD = password and SERVERIP = filemaker
server IP and DBName = database name

if I use a username/password for an account that has anything other
than [Full Access] privileges, I get the "Open using..." dialog
asking for me to enter my accountname and password.

Is it supposed to work this way? Only Full Access accounts can put
their username + password in the FMP7 link to open the hosted file?

Thanks in advance.
