I have used in on rare occasion, BUT...
1.  I would never use it where I anticipate the user might want the text to 
contain a return.
2.  I insist on consistent behavior in my solutions, so if it doesn't work on 
one layout, I won't use it in on any layouts.
3.  If I know my user will be using more than one solution of mine, Rule 2 
applies across all solutions.

That pretty much leaves it to small, stand-alone solutions I don't expect to 
grow in functionality.

I find it more realistic (though a bit more work) to trap for it field-by-field.
