Until Filemaker 6, there was no account name -- only a password. This was true for both Mac and Windows. I suspect you are converting to 8.5 and then attempting to open the file? If so, I IIRC the account field should be left empty and the original password used. I could be wrong on that detail, but the answer is very clear in the documentation. If this is your situation, I suggest reading the sections of the documentation that refer to upgrading from Filemaker 6.

I have a project to develop an 8.5 database and move the data from a 6.0 file. The old database was developed on and is maintained on a Mac system The database is password protected and ordinarily allows only data updates. They have the password to access layout view and I assume other functions that are normally grayed out without the password. She says that when she opens the database using the CMD key, it asks for the password but does not display an account name as it does on a PC. She has the password but it does not work on my PC because my account does not match. The client cannot tell me what the account name is on the Mac and I have no Mac experience and can’t tell her how to find it. I won’t be able to visit the client’s site for several weeks but would like to be able to access the database beforehand. Can anyone tell me how to find the account or user name on a Mac?

Thanks.
