Since checboxes are fed by a value list, define the field as auto-entered with that value list. In other words, auto-enter a calculated value, where the calculation is:
ValueListItems ( get(filename); "My_ValueList") Sounds like it's currently being set to auto-enter one literal value, probably also as a calculation. Might also use some field value.
