I clearly need a forum for beginners. Any suggestions?

Al - I know it's not a discussion forum, but About This Particular Macintosh (ATPM) has been running an occasional series of FMP articles that I think are suitable for entry-level folk.

There's a good example in the current (November 2008) issue on text calculations to increment version numbers.

It's not an elegant way to implement version numbering (I'd have used separate numerical fields and concatenated them) but that's not the point - it shows off a lot of useful text-parsing and manipulation techniques.

You'll have to check the indexes to see which issues have FMP articles in them. ATPM has archives of all previous issues.
