I agree.
I have one monolithic table that I am converting into a dozen or more
relational tables.
The base table has over 500 fields, many with repetitions.
Thus the "hoops".
I have dozens of conversion scripts due to the lack of discipline in posting
to this one table.
That's why I am wondering if my approach of one script to get a base table
record, then calling another script to open a new window and add one or more
records to one of the relational tables is necessary.
They run quite a long time for less than 6000 records!

You certainly seem to be jumping through a lot of hoops just to move data
from an old database into a new database.  I've been keeping one (sleepy)
eye on this thread, so I'm not up to speed on exactly what you need to
accomplish - the ultimate goal - but it seems like way too much work is
being done.
