Hi Chuck,
Actually there is. When you create the variable for the search use the
getastext() functions. Or when entering data put it in quotes. This
way the variable contains text and the search will work. The same is
true for a scripted find. You can use the same variables for both. In
the calculation screen check out text and date functions as well. There
are a number of helpful functions that will give you a text based
variable that can be used in a find, constrain or extend step.
