If you're not entering the number yourself but are relying on what other people have typed, you may be getting lower-case "L"s instead of "1"s or capital "O"s instead of "0"s. Yes, even here in the 21st Century, some people cling to their old typewriter habits. Using a font that provides a strong distinction between these confusable characters (such as a VT font that runs a "/" thru the zero) might help make the problems stand out in a crowd.
