I'm trying desperately to get FM SERVER working on my home Mac so I
can open files while at my place of employment, where we also use FM.
This is a new endeavor for me and it is proving to be beyond my
capability.
Server 10 is installed and is working, at least at home. Databases
are installed and the admin console seems to be working OK.
The problem for me is that although I can successfully 'Open Remote'
from here at home and open my files, when I try from my office where I
work (not my home), I cannot.
Therefore, I suspect it is a firewall or port problem, but so far
nothing I have tried has helped. And firewalls and ports are areas
that I'm particularly weak in. I've used FM support up to the point
where I would need to pay for specialized help. I have visited my
Apple Genius and got some help using Airport Utility to set up port-
forwarding on my Airport Extreme.
What I have at home:
Mac Pro running 10.5.7
AirPort Extreme (one of the original 'flying saucer' versions)
FM Advanced 10
FM Server 10 (from Technet)
a dedicated IP from my ISP
Firewall software (NetBarrier X5) setting changed to NO RESTRICTIONS
[coincidentally, can anyone who uses this tell me what stronger X5
setting I can use and still have FM server work]
My questions to the group are:
1. Any idea where/what my problem might be? Anything else to try
before paying FM $45? By the way, I'm not addressing the group in an
attempt to avoid paying FM $45 for support. I'm perfectly willing to
pay them if I think they'll solve my problem, but if the problem is
not specifically an FM issue, but Airport or Mac related instead, then
it's not really their problem.
2. When at home, I'm using 10.37.129.2 to successfully 'open remote.'
But do I use my dedicated IP (75.33.118.12) when trying to access from
elsewhere? (I've tried both without success.)
3. If you think FM Support can help, do you think I'll be able to
get someone there who has FM Server experience on a Mac with Airport
Extreme?
