The "/" is known variously as a slash, virgule, solidus, slant,
stroke, oblique dash, separatrix, diagonal, forward slash, scratch
comma, over (as in "4 over 5" for 4/5), slak, or whack. It is not
now, nor has it ever been, known as a backslash.
