"STRATIGRAPHY AND TECTONIC OF WEST ARM OF SULAWESI"

West Arm of Sulawesi is a very interesting place to understanding its
geological setting. Only numbers of papers and publications have released by
company or researcher describe about this area. As known that the area have
a good oil and gas opportunities especially in late Tertiary part. This
fieldtrip aims to give some imaging about structural geology, stratigraphy
setting and reservoirs characteristic in West Arm Sulawesi especially in
South Sulawesi Province.

There are a lot of outcrops, morphology and sightview along 5 days 4 nights
trip cross the West Arm of Sulawesi. These geological objects can
representative the expansion of this area and hope brings better
comprehension for participant especially for some geological aspect in West
Arm of Sulawesi e.g. tectonic setting, structural development,
lithostratigraphy succession of West Arm of Sulawesi, basin analyses and
also for some application for oil and gas, mining, engineering geology and
paleontology.
Some best observed outcrops in West Arm of Sulawesi e.g. Bantimala area with
its melange, limestone of Tonasa Formation, quartz sandstone of Mallawa
Formation, volcanics sediment of Camba Formation, and limestone of Toraja
Formation. Further to westward, Sengkang basin area will be one of
interesting topic to discuss in this fieldtrip caused of its hydrocarbon
potential has been found by several years.

Mr. Bambang Priyadi (Geology Dept. ITB), Mr. Nusatriyo Guritno (CNOOC) and
Mr. Kaharuddin M.S. (Geology Dept. UNHAS) are three of experienced leaders
will guide this fieldtrip. Some papers and publications resulted from their
research in West Arm of Sulawesi area.
In other hand this fieldtrip also offering geotourism aspect as interesting
as its geological setting. The beautiful of Tana Toraja highland offering
unique culture, ritual ceremony, traditional stone cemetarial and house
called tongkonan, with beautiful landscape of mountain, river and valley.
Also in Sengkang area we can find Tempe Lake and handmade woven silk that
