"SAND BOX MODELLING" Date : November 28 - 29, 2004 (Sunday - Monday) Overview : Experimental studies using both analogue and numerical modeling have been used widely in the field of structural geology. This technique becomes one of the most effective ways to study rocks deformation in laboratory particularly sedimentary rocks. Analogue modeling is a simplification of nature, using this technique, structures formed due to the deformation of rocks, which in situ properties may be poorly known, can be modeled and investigated. For the last twenty years, analogue modeling has undergone significant advances and has proven to be an effective and relatively inexpensive tool for investigating tectonic processes. Moreover, in the analogue modeling approach gives possibility comparing initial condition (undeformed) and deformed stages. Among others, sandbox modeling technique is the most common used by many researchers in conducting their structural model. The purpose of the workshop is to introduce and to demonstrate the usefulness of analogue sandbox-modeling technique not only for understanding structural development in sedimentary basin but also in assisting your future exploration program.
