Thanks for sharing your insights and experience, David. Regardless of our approaches, it is clear that meaningful software systems are at least "complicated", and in many cases "complex". Some of my larger-scale experiments (such as meta-circular Humus) have led me to some very interesting patterns for manging this inherent complexity. I'll certainly be publishing more, and I look forward to ongoing collaborative discussions.
Although I can't say that I have ready answers for some of the challenge you describe, I do have confidence that appropriate actor-based solutions do exist. Since the actor model has close analogs with the interactions among groups of people, I often look for solution-patterns among the social and commercial interactions of communities. The history of civilization provides a rich set of tried-and-true interaction patterns--much richer than the relatively impoverished history of computing :-) _______________________________________________ fonc mailing list fonc@vpri.org http://vpri.org/mailman/listinfo/fonc
