I think both.
But since i am technician i can clearly tell is that javascript is failure.

Why 20 years ago we weren't able to use script to draw something
directly on page?
It took 20 years for this particular software to evolve to do
something ridiculously basic..
What a great progress we made! :)

Why things like Lively Kernel (http://www.lively-kernel.org/) is
possible to deliver only today?
It's really strikes me.
