Hi all
oil
i agree with connie about the peanut oil and the allergy thing - something else would be better. sesame sound good, but you only need to use a little tiny bit of it so i dont think it'd move quickly enough. how about either a lite olive oil or a different vegetable oil like grapeseed oil?
soaps
can anyone remember if the soaps at alfalfa were wrapped in paper or not?is it worth contacting them to find out which ones they get?
tomatos
we also need to factor in that the only organic one around are italian - ie big transportation and C02 costs there.....im happy to check in with lara from uts in terms of how well they actually sell at uts food coop, as compared to our enthusiam that they had them when we went on the food coop field trip, and get back to people .

Hi
Peanuts are a common allergen.
Quite a lot of people sensitive to foods or have problems with allergies
tend to be allergic to peanut.
So peanut oil although yummy would be a likely allergen for allergy prone
people.
Sesame oil is a safer oil.
But sesame oil is very expensive!
Would be an idea to put a drop or two into marinating food or and get the
flavour of it and then frying it with a more economical though blander oil
like sunflower or safflower oil.
Also sesame oil is great as salad dressing.
Olive oil is however still the better oil for frying 'cos it produces less
hydrocarbons when heated up.
Cheers,
Connie

I reckon either peanut or sesame are great for cooking stir fries where you
want a bit more flavour than olive oil. We might want to put a sign up
declaring its existence if it will be hard to shift - perhaps with some
cooking tips.
I say yes to tinned organic tomatoes. If I don't buy them from the Co-op,
I'll buy them from the supermarket anyway, as peeling and chopping tomatoes
isn't my favourite thing to do, and tinned tomatoes go towards an emergency
meal when there's no fresh food in the house. But that's just me...
Soap I'm not sure about - depends if it's possible to source a
non-paper-covered kind.
