its amazing how in a time of hurt and pain someone always manages to find an angle to have a whinge. Ozhog a lot of families are in turmoil, and all you can do is whinge about the VIP's having 2 planes. There would be reasons why, most of them obvious. Bob, of Broadview, they don't fly everyone on the same flight, in case it crashes. That way, they don't loose eveyone in one go. Troy of Warradale, the cameraman was doing his job, under great duress, and the footage he took is unique and valuable to the investigators. He would have reacted instinctively, not with the thought of "money" in mind. That film may provide the key to the whole thing. A very sad day. One would hope that these countries have their infrastrucure under control, obviously not in this case. I have heard that their have been issues with Garuda and their maintainance procedures, from someone in the industry. He said he wouldnt fly with them for any money. We forget just how lucky we are in Oz, and the checks and balances that are applied by the Govt to stop this happening here are only for the better. As for the media reporting the plane as having "crash landed" well in my opinion, it crashed. It didn't land at all. Lets hope some good comes out of this. Posted by: Chris of Adelaide 12:32pm today When I made my initial comment the story had just hit and I had no idea of the extent of the losses of life etc. I apologise to anyone I may have offended. Posted by: Ozhog of Tailem Bend 11:51am today Troy, that footage may just hold the key to an investigation into this tragedy. Or better still have footage of someone they think is missing or still on the plane, but the footage will show they got out and are being helped somewhere. My condolences to all the families who have loss loved ones. Posted by: Tonya of Darwin 10:07am today M. McCulloch of Elizabeth I'm with you on this. Its been a huge concern for me that these countries who thrive on the profitable tourist trade, do NOT have any decent and acceptable levels of infrastructure to support the tourists let alone their citizens. I'm not asking for 5 star hospitals, emergency services and the like, but at the very least a service that can support and service an emergency situation like Bali bombings and the plane crash. In the scheme of things this was not the magnitude of a Tsunami or Hurricane Katrina type of disaster. Where does the tourist dollar go to? I omit many destinations for my holidays on the basis of the infrastructure they provide to tourists and their citizens. Posted by: Romeo of Seaton 10:01am today I respect the grieving families and loved ones of those who have died in this tragedy. Perish the thought we construe from this incident that this doomed plane was a decoy. Individuals' lives are precious - no matter who they are - each and every one. Posted by: susi stoye of Adelaide 9:54am today Shame of the channel 7 camera man for filming all the people in pain!!! Posted by: Troy Fynnaart of Warradale 9:09am today When you here of a plane crashing you always think the worst no survivors. But this time there were survivors and that is good news. But what I am not able to understand is why when a senior Minister of the Government has to take his or her private plane. If they want the media to attend then they should take a larger plane and charge company for their flight. When you here of a plane crashing you always think the worst no survivors. Posted by: Bob Harris of Broadview 9:01am today Ozhog, maybe it's like members the royal family not flying on the same plane. Alex would be the Queen obviously Posted by: Mark G of 8:11am today I hope I'm wrong but, I saw no proper fire appliance at the scene of the crash, just a fire hose firing water at the the stricken aeroplane. I saw no firemen with protective clothing dousing with retardent foam, just men with business shirts and ties or in many cases just singlets, playing the single water hose onto the wreck. Did anyone else notice the lack of proper equipment? M. McCulloch Posted by: M. McCulloch of Elizabeth 7:53am today Ozhog lets use some other forum to slate the Government please. This anti everything our Government does sentiment is beginning to wear thing! This is a tragedy from any angle and using it as another reason or excuse to have a go at our local politians from whatever side of the political spectrum you come from is shocking. My heart goes out to the victims and their families of all nationalities at this time. Posted by: Richard of Woodcroft 7:28am today A 737 crashes on 07/03/07. Wonder how long it will take the conspiracy theorists to make something out of that trivia? Posted by: Terri Kendall of Eudunda 6:28am today I have had the good fortune--on a couple of occasions--to spend time with the Hon. Alexander Downer. He is a man of great intellect, and probably one of the leading parliamentarians in the Commonwealth. You should consider yourself blessed to have someone of this calibre in the central government of Australia. Your comments regarding the use of "VIP Aircraft" for senior Ministers of the Crown are entirely misguided, and most inappropriate, given the loss of life in the Indonesian air crash. Posted by: Ashley Haslett of Vancouver, Canada 12:42am today Ozhog. The reason senior politicans, senior managers in many companies and senior royals in many countries do not travel on the same aircraft or even in the same car is to prevent them being killed in an accident such as this one. It is risk management. Posted by: Stuart Smith of Adelaide 11:08pm March 07, 2007 I have to agree with Mark, Ozhog's comments have done nothing to comment on the suffering that a lot of son's, daughters, mothers, fathers etc. are going to feel. My prayers go out to those people. Posted by: Paul Smith of Elizabeth 7:12pm March 07, 2007 This is why our "important" people need to have "private" arrangements and not to rely on "normal" services. Posted by: Mark Thompson of Mark of Adelaide 3:42pm March 07, 2007 Ozhog. People have died and many are badly injured and your comments are regarding politicians flying in different jets?? Posted by: Mark of Adelaide 3:22pm March 07, 2007 This is a sad story, but the question has to be asked, regarding this quote from another Advertiser story on the subject. QUOTE "Both the attorney-general and Foreign Minister Alexander Downer were due to fly to Yogyakarta from Jakarta today, each on their own VIP aircraft." UNQUOTE Why did 2 ministers need 2 VIP aircraft to go to the same place? Sounds a bit Regal to me.
