RACI National Elections, final reminder This week is the last week for members (MRACI/FRACI CChem) to vote in the current Board elections. The poll closes on the 31st July. There are two positions with elections; President-elect and the National Representative. Ballot papers were sent to those members eligible to vote with your annual subscription notice in June. Make your vote count. If you have any queries, please contact Gemma in the NSW office on 9663 4960 or a reply email. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. You are invited to dinner with speakers and committee at a local restaurant (at your own expense) after each seminar. TUESDAY AUGUST 31ST "Chemistry and Icecream"; speaker Peter Skenlar, Streets Icecream (Unilever) TUESDAY OCTOBER 19TH "Molecular Radiopharmaceuticals for Imaging Disease"; speaker Dr Andrew Katsifis (ANSTO). And in September, the Section will partake in the NSW AGM, running its committee AGM on the 14th September at UNSW. Details of this will be issued soon through the Branch office. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. (Inaugural) UWS Symposium on NMR Imaging and Diffusion 2004 Saturday 4th September (www.uws.edu.au/about/adminorg/devint/ord/nano/events) This symposium will showcase recent theoretical developments and cutting edge applications of NMR Imaging and NMR Diffusion measurements. It will bring together leading domestic and international experts on topics ranging from medical applications to polymers and plants. The symposium is open to all including students. Researchers who would not normally think to include NMR in their research are especially encouraged to attend. Invited Speakers: a.. Mr. Cameron Barnard (Centre for Magnetic Resonance, University of Queensland) Engineering Innovations and Applications at High Field b.. Dr. M. Iko Burgar (CSIRO - CMIT, Clayton, Victoria) NMR Spectroscopy and MRI of Fluid Flow in Porous Media c.. Prof. Paul Callaghan (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand) Multidimensional Pulsed Gradient Spin-Echo NMR d.. Prof. Les Field (University of Sydney) Applications of Diffusion Ordered Spectroscopy (DOSY) to Monomer/Dimer/Oligomer Problems in Organometallics e.. A/Prof. Graham Jones (University of Adelaide) Water and Solute Movement through Plant Cell Membranes (determined by NMR diffusion and relaxation times) f.. Prof. Philip Kuchel (University of Sydney) Biophysical Insights from NMR-based Molecular Diffusion Measurements on Red Blood Cells g.. Prof. Chris Pantelis (University of Melbourne) A Brief Recent History of the Brain and Schizophrenia h.. A/Prof. Andrew Whittaker (University of Queensland) Diffusion-Ordered Spectroscopy and Chemical Exchange in Polymers of Controlled Architecture: A Tool for Rational Design of MRI Relaxation Agents i.. Dr. Alistair Young (University of Auckland, New Zealand) Reconstruction of 3D Heart Wall Motion and Structure with MRI Venue Lecture Theatre 5, Building 21, UWS Campbelltown Campus. Position Vacant: Industrial Chemist, SGS SGS is the world's largest verification, testing and certification organisation. An opportunity exists within the Industrial & Analytical Services Group at Matraville for a suitable candidate to join an active and skilful team of analytical/industrial chemists to service primarily petrochemical and chemical industries. The commercial work nature varies largely, ranging from production and products testing , environmental and occupational hygiene monitoring, field sampling, waste assessment to industrial process development, industrial process or product problem solving or process investigative projects. Ideally you would have a tertiary qualification or postgraduate degree or R&D experience, enjoy liaison with clients, carry out field work in a factory environment and perform challenging laboratory work. You are a self starter, have good communication skill, write sound reports, and have good customer focus. You will also be expected to provide manufacturing/production analytical support as required, and have flexibility to work and respond to production requests and deliver services in a timely manner. Broad practical exposure to a number of analytical techniques with specialisation on GC FID/ECD or GC MS or HPLC or atomic absorption spectroscopy would be a distinct advantage. Working after hours will be required on occasions and it is essential that you have a current driving licence. Please apply to Dr Paul Pui by email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] by August 4, 2004.
