Personally, I can live with both single- and double-click, no problem. But in general, standardization is a very good thing. In most areas, GUI behavior is already very consistent across different programs, but tray icons behave quite chaotically: Some need double-click, some want single-click, some right-click, some even double right-click, etc. So I definitely encourage standardization in this area.
