Dear John (sorry couldn't resist the historical reference to WW2 since it
is the day after Memorial Day),
To respond to some of your questions: I was running 99SE-SP6 on a
Win-2K/SP1 host with 512M of memory and saw only rare shutdown glitches
where I had to go to task manager to terminate some of the Protel servers
(but never any data corruption). I did try Protel 99SE-SP6 on a Win98SE
host and seemed to have many more "strange" problems so I would recommend
Win-2K as the host operating system. However, since I did a system upgrade
(dual P3-933 with 768M memory and Win-2K/SP1 [now SP2]), I have seen no
repeat of these occasional glitches. Note that my host is also configured
with 3GB of fixed swap file (1.5GB on each of two drives). IMO, Protel
99SE-SP6 seems very happy with 768M memory. However, be advised that I
have not "pushed" Protel with any large designs to date. This is just
another data point for what it is worth. My guideline: Memory is cheap
and seems to solve an amazing number of "windows problems". (I still
think that Bill Gates has secret ownership of the semiconductor memory
companies!! In my earlier days, a power mainframe computer had 128KB of
memory)

Bye from Duane Hague
