Having used Protel since 1994, I can say that most of the enhancements and
features have been worthwhile, and the reliability issues and bugs have
been reduced. There are some things it could do better, but if the past
record of Protel holds they will do those better in a future release. Does
anyone else remember running Schematic and PCB on a Windows 3.1 machine
and having to reboot Windows after every 10 changes on a semi-complex
design to keep from crashing? Compare that to Protel 98 and Protel 99 SE.
Some of the fluffy features that have been added do not strike me as being
done by the core software group, but with the add-on server design of
Protel it can be hard to tell. I seem to remember the 3D viewer was
originally an add-on that was done outside of Protel, but then my memory
may be getting fuzzy.
Now I'm not saying Protel is perfect, but it is the most cost effective
package and the upgrade and support costs have been excellent over the
years.

Subject: [PEDA] SP-7 ?
It's been a long time since SP6, so what is left is 2001SE
I have a queasy feeling a "major" update is a'coming with lots of
unwanted enhancements and unnecessary features.
The traditional age-old bugs will be retained, affording designers who
know the quirk work-arounds job security.
So bend over, apply a lil' KY and hold onto your wallets- stockholders
will be happy.
