The announcement was that it is going up from $5995 to $7995.
This is for Protel 99SE, not the next version.
Upgrade to the next version from 99SE, rumored to be $995.

So this is my guess: the price will go up and shortly thereafter the next
version will be announced. Those who have paid the increased price will get
the next version no additional charge. Those who buy now will still save
$1005 ($7995 - $5995 - $995).

That's only a guess, I have no inside information.

Bottom line: maintenance for two years: $995 compared to the 15% per year
many other CAD companies charge. As I recall, when Protel 99 came out it
was $4995. 15% per year for the first year, $750, 15% of $5995 for the
second year, $900, $1650 total. Even better: users can decide when to
upgrade. If you wait a long time, the upgrade price goes up, but not
quickly or prohibitively. They don't bite you for back "maintenance."
Service packs are free. It's a good deal, in my opinion the best
price/performance ratio for a professional level system in the business, by
a good margin. You can easily pay a lot more for a lot less.

And we are really looking forward to SP7 and the rumored autorouter
makeover. (There is lots of unofficial confirmation of this, but by keeping
it unofficial, Protel preserves their options.)
