The most annoying thing about this is that if you make a PCB with the rounded ends,
make the gerbers, edit the circles to rectangles in the apertures in beginning of the
Gerber file, import the Gerber file into a new PCB, you will have the square ends
which you want.

Subject: Re: [PEDA] Microwave PCB layout
| Henrik,
| sorry for the delay in my response, meetings and other things kept
| me from taking the time to answer your query. I am not sure if there are
| that many others on the listserver who do microwave designs so I will give
| my overview for Protel.
| 1) Protel does not work great for microwave design. There are several
| things which could be better for such designs. Then again, unless you are
| looking at spending $20 -50K I don't think any other package would do that
| much better. If you could justify a lot more money I would be looking to
| investigate Pantheon by Intercept. It seems to be designed for doing RF
| circuits and thus probably overcomes some of the RF or microwave
| shortcomings of lesser packages.
| 2) Most of our designs are actually simulated in RF tools before they
| ever reach PCB stage. Most of what I do on the microwave side is get their
| designs into Protel as accurately as I can through importing DXF or Gerber
| patterns.
| 3) In schematic there are some real issues with connectivity and
| netlists for microwave design because it is not so simple or reliable to
| implement connective copper features which are not just a straight
| connection wire. Commonly I used a visually descriptive schematic for
| presentation, then I gut it and use wires to obtain correct connectivity for
| the netlist on the PCB.
|
| If you have any more specific questions, feel free to email me
| directly.
