To make a library component from a Gerber, apparently you have to first import the
Gerber into a PCB, then select everything, then copy.

Go into the PCB library editor & do a paste.

When viewing the graphic on anything other than the Overlay layers, or Mechanical
layer, dots / lighter shades may seem to be missing. They are still there, you just
need to zoom in quite a bit. I believe that this is due to the drafting thresholds.
The PCB should Gerber print completely with all the shades intact. Protel drops the
smaller dots the signal layers to help refresh speed. I tried printing a pcb with the
sample logos on my 1440dpi printer at 1:1 scale. The results are very good.

When selecting a DPI in my software, if you will be printing on an overlay layer, I
recommend nothing larger than 75 lpi. When printing on the top or bottom signal
layer, you can go for a higher lpi like around 100. The dots here are much finer
making finer shades, but silk screening can't print this fine.

| At my FTP site you will find the following:
|
| ftp://ftp.point-lab.com/quartus/Public/ProtelUsers/
|
| PicToGBR.zip - 2kb   -> source & instructions on how to convert a 256 shade gray
|image to Gerber.
| pictogerberexample.zip - 115kb -> 3 images I converted to Gerber as examples.
|Select 'TopOverlay layer', then import.
|
|

| other - Spiral.zip - 1.5kb -> spiral generator, now with instructions.
| other - Supercompact.zip - 3.1kb -> Super compact schematic symbols for almost all
|discrete components.
