Yes, DRC errors caused by "shorts" are not cleared by running the Update
Free Primitives command, or whatever it is called. The update process is a
mass process touching almost all primitives, and, I suspect, running the
on-line DRC during it would make it take *much* longer. What Protel could
do here is to ask if we want to run DRC after running a mass process like
that, but it is easy enough to push a few buttons to run DRC if there are
annoying phoney errors hanging around.
However, in this case I'd do something different: instead of using vias,
I'd use pads with the same name as the main pad. As long as the
synchronizer is used to load the nets, then nets will be assigned correctly
without further fuss.
