Well, here are some links to documentation. But I'm not so sure anymore
whether "FSF" is the right thing to call them. While tracing relevant
links for you (see below) I came across several names for the format.
What I really meant is what is described below with the GNU style.

You need to inspect the cvs2cl.pl help command to come across the
term FSF-style. But it might be that the author of this tool just meant
the same as GNU style.

Is this a limitation of the timeline view?
Probably we can come up with a way to preserve newlines in timeline
messages using CSS.
That would make them much easier readable.
